SPYDER 3D ORB FILAMENT TRIALS
Thank you all for your support and for being part of the Spyder 3D World community! We’ve been listening to the feedback from the community and we’ve found that the filament itself has been the biggest drawback to 3D printing. The common frustrations include:
- Bed adhesion
- Interlayer adhesion
- Heat resistance
- Impact Strength
- Moisture absorption / Air pockets
- Health concerns
To evaluate these problems, we started purchasing as many different types of filaments from as many different manufacturers as possible. We began with common PLA and ABS and then moved toward special blends. We’ve even been testing other manufacturers’ so-called “superior filaments” but continued to run into the same issues. Our patience was wearing thin, so we decided to formulate our own filaments to ultimately solve all of these printing issues!
You are all talented members of the 3D printing industry, which is why we want to include you in the development process!
10 designers and 10 printer service providers will be chosen, and all participants will receive a spool of our each newly designed filaments. Participants will print their own designs using the filaments we send. They will then send us what they’ve printed (both good and bad prints!), along with their feedback.
With these trials, it is our goal to confirm that we have produced the highest quality filament that eliminates all of the problems with current 3D filaments.
At the conclusion of these trials, there will then be a random drawing for a grand prize winner to celebrate his or her collaboration within our community. The grand prize winner will receive two tickets to attend the 2017 CES show in Las Vegas complete with hotel accommodations! All members of Spyder 3D’s development team will receive 10 rolls of Spyder 3D filament and a special lifetime discount code for your future Spyder 3D filament purchases. You will also be honored on our website so that everyone will know you were instrumental in creating Spyder 3D’s filaments.
All you have to do is submit a short essay on the different, creative ways you have applied your 3D printing skills. If you’re a service bureau, please let us know your 3D printing capabilities and your weekly print volume. Good luck and we look forward to reading your entries!
