Welcome to the S3D Academy. Our engineers have compiled their notes into a series of free lessons for members of the Spyder 3D World community. Enroll now and dive into your first assignment.
Intro to 3D Printing
3d printing allows you to make a solid object that can be tested, and if needed it can be edited and easily reproduced. You can design parts for personal use, as a hobby, for replacement parts, or to improve upon an existing object. 3d printing is a tool that makes it possible to translate creativity and ideas into tangible objects.
3D Printing Software Essentials
There are a number of different 3D printing software combinations that can be used to slice 3D printable models communicate directly with 3D printers. In this course, we will cover the basic functionality of three very common applications: Repetier, ReplicatorG and Slic3r.
How to Run a 3D Printer
Understanding the basic settings and properly configuring your 3D printer are essential to achieving quality print results. This course provides an overview of common 3D printer settings and how each of them may effect your print.
Several members of the Chaparral Middle School Maker Club are enrolled in the S3D Academy. They are honing their 3D printing skills in preparation for a end-of-the-year 3D modeling competition. Chaparral students divided their maker club into groups. Each team is tasked with modeling a functional Pinewood Derby-style race car. They will print and assemble their cars, then race each other to see who’s hot rod rules the course. Visit the Chaparral Maker Club profile and follow the progress of these young innovators.
