I tie-dyed some nylon filament in hot water / vinegar and it was very slow drying on a standard reel. The outer layer would dry out but the inside would stay saturated with water. If the filament is not 98% dry, it will crack and pop as you try to extrude it, making little holes in your object and eventually clogging. I designed this reel to allow maximum air exposure to the filament so it can be packed with desiccant in a large zip lock bag. Then I set the zip lock on my hot water heater for a few hours and the filament dries out all the way through. The reel is made of 2 parts that friction fit together.
