Modified Automated Arduino 3D Scanner Turntable by Virtumake

In order to get better scans from the David SLS scanner, I wanted to use the turntable from Virtumake that interacts with the David software. However, the servo and Arduino board that was specified in the instructions were out of stock and sold from a European vendor. I therefore used a local servo and Arduino board and retrofitted the printed parts to the new components.

The code was modified to use a servo from Fry’s Electronics Parallax continuous rotation servo Part number #5230077. To account for this servo change, the base and table were redesigned on solidworks. After printing the case you may have to adjust the holes on the table to get a better alignment for the screws on the servo bracket.

The Arduino board I used was the “UNO R3 Development Board ATMEGA328P ATMEGA16U2 For Arduino Compatible” UNO R3.

The Code: Download the modified code to work with the servo from fry’s. Use appropriate pins for your board, and change it in the code if required.

In the David SLS software, under hardware right click advanced settings and go to communications to change UseDtrDuringScan to low/high. Make sure you have the right COM port selected.
